Saturday, Kraemer made a return visit to South Bend and ended any talk about his future.
“Notre Dame for a long time has always been my number one choice,” said Kraemer. “I always knew down inside that I was going there but wanted to wait and visit some other schools. But I had a great feeling and talked with my parents about it. I also talked with our family friend Kyle Rudolph a little bit with some final questions and feel really good about my decision.”
While Kraemer came up with his decision the middle of this week, its one he’s felt positive about awhile. It was convincing his parents that the time was right.
“It’s just a feeling I had recently and I made the decision to commit this weekend,” he said. “I talked with my father and we listed the pros and cons of committing now. He agreed with me 100-percent as to what a degree from Notre Dame once football is over will mean. He is also very comfortable with Coach (Harry) Hiestand and really feels he can coach me well and help me succeed at the next level.
“So he’s always felt Notre Dame was the choice for me, but wanted me to decided and come up with that decision and tell him.”
The help from Rudolph was also important as the former Elder Panther and Irish tight end understand the decision at hand.
“It was great talking with Kyle,” explained Kraemer. “I sent him three important questions that were on my mind and he really boosted my confidence. So it was great talking with him and he said it was the best decision I could make in my life.”
In the end the Irish held the advantage over the other team Kraemer was considering.
“The first visit I made to Notre Dame, I knew that was where I was going,” he said. “The second one it was even more. It was always between Notre Dame and Ohio State, but Notre Dame always had the lead. Ohio State was there for a little bit, but I know what Notre Dame can do for me in the future and I’m comfortable with my decision.”
Irish Eyes will have more with Kraemer about his decision.
