Comments from the other head coach

Northwestern head coach Pat Fitzgerald spoke to the media on Monday, Nov. 10

On playing Notre Dame:

“This game feels like a conference game because of the time and the calendar. This is going to be a great challenge for us, no doubt.”

On Everett Golson:

“He has a great grasp of their offense; he is a true dual-threat quarterback. He can run very well, has great escapability and has an arm that can make all the throws.”

On growing up a Notre Dame fan:

“Yeah, I’m Catholic from the South Side. Didn’t have a choice.”

On returning to Notre Dame, where Northwestern upset Notre Dame in 1995:

“I really don’t have a whole lot of time for nostalgia now. We have a lot of things to fix. We have to find a way to make two more points, you know?”

On Jaylon Smith:

“Smith is a ridiculous linebacker. He’s fun to watch. He’s relentless. He’s just a great football player.”
