Julius considers ND visit

Three-star athlete Jalen Julius has more programs in pursuit than visit weekends available. Notre Dame counts itself in that group as the Irish look to get Julius on campus alongside four-star running back Dexter Williams, a friend and teammate.

Jalen Julius needs to figure a few things out next week.

Several programs remain in pursuit of the three-star athlete from Winter Garden, Fla., with most of them continuing to jockey for official visits on one of the three live weekends left before National Signing Day.

Florida, Ole Miss, Louisville, Notre Dame, Texas A&M and Missouri are the main programs in play. Louisville received an official visit last month.

“I’ve got some coaches coming to see me once the dead (period) is over,” Julius said. “I don’t know if I’m going for a visit on the 16th. I’m going to Ole Miss on the 23rd. I’m setting up another visit, setting it up soon.”

Should Julius choose to make a visit during the Jan. 16 weekend it appears Notre Dame could be in line to play host.

Four-star running back Dexter Williams, a teammate of Julius at West Orange High School, is already scheduled to be in South Bend. Julius has been hearing from the Irish in his own right over the last couple weeks.

Right now there is no official offer on the table.

“They said they want to squeeze me in the class and they’re trying to make more room for me,” Julius said. “I think it’s on the offensive side.”

Julius has talked a little bit with Williams about Notre Dame and has some background knowledge.

“I know a lot about Notre Dame,” said Julius, a one-time Florida commitment. “I know that Lou Holtz used to be their head coach. It’s a great, traditional program and everything.”

Ole Miss will host the 5-foot-11, 175-pound prospect of Jan. 23 regardless of which program grabs the Jan. 16 weekend slot. Julius hopes to connect with more coaches in person after talking to several over the phone.

“Just meeting all the coaching staff,” Julius said. “I talk to them a lot but I’ve only met two coaches, coach (Chris) Kiffin and coach (Grant) Heard.”

Julius will then choose among Florida, Missouri and Texas A&M for the final visit.

New Florida head coach Jim McElwain has reopened the line of communication since taking over while the other programs continue to work on securing a trip as well. Julius plans to do some research to figure out which destination makes the most sense.

“Whichever school wants me the most and whichever school fits me the most,” he said. “I’ll look at the depth chart and do some more research about their majors, like what’s the best major for me and do they have it.”

Once all the visits are complete, Julius will feel comfortable making a decision. It’ll likely be right near National Signing Day.

“It’ll probably be close to it,” Julius said. “I wanna take all my visits and weigh all my options and choose the best school for me.”
