ND targets Wazzu commit

Four-star Washington State safety commit Kameron Powell may soon find himself reassessing his options after recently hearing from Irish assistant Bob Elliott.

Notre Dame is in pursuit of a seventh defensive back for its 2015 class, and the Irish have reached out to four-star Washington State safety commit Kameron Powell of Upland (Calif.) High in attempt to assess interest.

“One of the coaches [Bob Elliott] started talking with me on Twitter, and I gave him a call,” Powell said. “That was a few days ago. He told me that Notre Dame was interested, and that was about it.”

Powell, who committed to the Cougars last May, says the interest from Notre Dame came unexpectedly.

“I truly don’t know why they decided to reach out to me,” Powell said.

Powell added no specifics were discussed in the phone conversation in regards to a potential offer, though he did follow through with Notre Dame’s request to view his transcripts.

“I’m a pretty solid commit,” Powell said. “I would have to talk with my mom about it if they (Notre Dame) offered.”

Powell is a four-star prospect and is ranked as the No. 29 safety in the class of 2015. He holds offers from Colorado, Colorado State, Oregon State, San Jose State, Utah, Washington and Washington State.
