‘The show must go on’

Notre Dame running back target Amir Rasul talks about his level of interest in Notre Dame following the departure of Irish running backs coach Tony Alford to Ohio State.

Notre Dame offered elite speedster and three-star running back Amir Rasul of Coral Gables (Fla.) High less than two weeks ago. Rasul picked up the Irish offer when former Notre Dame running backs coach Tony Alford visited his school.

The Miami Hurricanes’ commit says Alford’s departure to Ohio State has no effect on his interest in Notre Dame.

“I still believe in the program and all that it stands for,” Rasul said. “Coach Alford will be missed, but the show must go on. Notre Dame still has a great football team and great academics. The tradition doesn’t change.”

Currently, three programs are standing out most to Rasul, who calls his commitment to Miami “not very strong.”

“Notre Dame, South Carolina and Miami are my favorites right now,” Rasul said.

No visits are currently planned for the 6-foot, 202-pound back.

“I have to talk with my parents and figure out where I’m going to go this spring,” Rasul said. “Hopefully, I can hit up a few different places.”

Rasul named Alabama, LSU, Michigan and Mississippi State as programs he believes that could be close to offering.
