Two-way Poly athlete adds ND offer

Notre Dame associate head coach Mike Denbrock offered four-star wide receiver Jack Jones of Long Beach (Calif.) Poly on Wednesday afternoon.

Long Beach (Calif.) Poly four-star wide receiver Jack Jones (“Jacck Jacck”) is expecting Irish associate head coach Mike Denbrock to pay him a visit this spring after he picked up a Notre Dame offer on Wednesday afternoon.

“I was surprised that Notre Dame was offering me because I had only talked to Coach Denbrock once before,” Jones said. “He told me on the phone today that he thought I was electric on the field and that he’s excited to meet me face-to-face when he visits my school soon.”

Jones, who plays both wide receiver and cornerback, finds favor with Notre Dame’s academic reputation.

“I know that Notre Dame has a great graduation rate,” Jones said. “They have a great campus, and I like the way they play on field.”

Despite listing UCLA as his favorite school this past weekend, Jones says his recruitment is still wide open, and he doesn’t intend to announce his college destination until signing day of next year. However, there are certain schools he’s hearing from more than others.

“UCLA, Washington, Texas Tech, USC, Oklahoma and Arizona State are recruiting me hardest right now,” Jones said. “Those are really the main ones.”

“Location won't play a big role,” Jones added. “It's cool that USC and UCLA are close to home, and my friends and family could see me but I'm looking where I'll fit in the best and where I think I can have the most success on and off the field. Honestly, I’m just focused on high school right now.”

Jones will visit UCLA on Wednesday night for the Bruins’ home basketball game. No other visits are currently scheduled.

Jones is a four-star prospect and is ranked as the No. 25 wide receiver in the class of 2016. Top Stories
