Ducks offer top safety target

Four-star safety Brandon Burton added Oregon to his growing offer list. He also touched base with Notre Dame assistant Mike Denbrock.

Four-star safety Brandon Burton had a big day on Wednesday.

The 6-foot, 180-pounder from Junipero Serra High School in Gardena, Calif., added an offer from Oregon and also resumed contact with Notre Dame.

Burton’s offer list now stands at 17.

“Some of the big ones I’m looking at are Oregon, USC, UCLA, Florida State, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Washington and Arizona State,” he said. “Those are the main ones.”

Burton landed an offer from Notre Dame back in December when former quarterbacks coach Matt LaFleur visited the high school.

LaFleur has since joined the Atlanta Falcons coaching staff, which left Burton without an Irish contact for a couple of weeks. That changed when Mike Denbrock was reassigned to recruit a portion of southern California.

“I haven’t talked to the coaching staff in a while but I’m excited to get back with them and connect with them,” Burton said. “Coach Denbrock, he just wants to start off the relationship with me and build it up so we could further my recruiting process with Notre Dame.”

The next step for Burton is to decide if he’ll visit Notre Dame. He was at UCLA last Wednesday and has plans to see California in May when he attends the Nike Camp in Oakland.

He participated in Sunday’s Los Angeles Nike Camp.

“It went well,” he said. “I think I competed well. I was out there battling through injury but I was just out there trying to perform my best and play against the best in my class.”

Burton suffered a minor hip and back injury during a seven-on-seven game but it didn’t prevent him from competing at the camp. ranks Burton as the No. 9 safety in the country. Top Stories
