Top sophomore set to visit
The 6-foot-4, 295-pounder from St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati has several more visits on the schedule for this spring and summer. He, along with teammate Sean Clifford, will visit Notre Dame on April 11.
“Both of us, along with our families, are going to get in on Friday night and be at practice in the morning,” Bockhorst said. “I’m sure we’ll probably stick around a little bit after practice to go around campus and probably go to the bookstore again.”
Not many schools have been more consistent in their interest than Notre Dame.
“It’s definitely early in the stages for Notre Dame,” Bockhorst said. “It’s Notre Dame so I’m willing to wait. I’m going to go up there and see practice and hopefully they can get a better look at me and give me a nice eyeball test. That’s what I’m hoping for.”
Bockhorst attended Notre Dame’s camp last summer and worked with Irish offensive line coach Harry Hiestand.
He’s excited to get another opportunity to see Hiestand in action at practice on Saturday.
“I worked with him at camp last summer,” Bockhorst said. “I really like his coaching style. When you go to these camps you get to work with these college coaches and you get to see how they work and what it would be like playing for them. I like his coaching style because he kind of forces you to ask questions and come to conclusions by yourself as to what you did wrong and I like that because I think that you learn a lot more and become a better player if you learn what you did wrong and know how to fix it.”
Bockhorst plans to add several other schools to his visit schedule.
“Right now I have a pretty full slate of visits,” he said. “The coaches I’ve had most contact with are obviously Ohio State, Louisville, Michigan State, Pittsburgh and Notre Dame is sprinkled in there. Louisville, Ohio State, Tennessee and Michigan State are schools I definitely have weekly contact with and I talk to the coaches quite often.”
