Irish in the mix for 5-star wide out
Notre Dame recently made the cut for five-star receiver Tyler Vaughns of La Puente (Calif.) Bishop Amat, joined by Alabama, Arizona State, Georgia, Florida, Nebraska, Oklahoma, UCLA, USC, Washington and Washington State.
Soon the 6-foot-3, 180-pound wide out will narrow his recruitment to five finalists, with the Irish in promising position to be included.
“In the middle of the summer, I am going to narrow my list to a top five,” Vaughns said. “Notre Dame definitely has a good shot (to be included) because of their coaches. We keep in touch a lot, and I really want to see their campus. Hopefully, that will happen this summer.”
Vaughns, who was offered by Notre Dame last December, took a quiet approach to recruiting this spring by choosing not to attend any spring games. His most recent visit was to Arizona State in February.
Notre Dame associate head coach Mike Denbrock is heading Vaughns’ recruitment.
“Coach Denbrock likes the way I play and the way that I attack the ball when it’s in the air,” Vaughns said. “He likes my size and thinks I could be a big weapon for their offense. It’s just a matter of seeing Notre Dame for myself because I’ve heard a lot of good things about it.”
Vaughns plans to take official visits to his top five schools.
“I want to be comfortable at the school wherever it is, and I want to see the school for myself so I can tell if I see myself living there for college,” Vaughns said.
Vaughns plans to see the University of Florida this summer during a trip to the Sunshine State with his 7-on-7 team.
Vaughns is ranked as the No. 1 wide receiver in the West and the No. 2 wide receiver overall in the Class of 2016.
