Elliott joins Irish family

Three-star safety Jalen Elliott landed an offer from Notre Dame last month and committed on Friday afternoon during his first visit to South Bend.

That didn’t take long.

Notre Dame’s Irish Invasion camp was expected to produce at least one commitment. Credit three-star Jalen Elliott for kicking off the event with a bang.

“I am blessed to say I am committed to the University of Notre Dame,” Elliott tweeted from campus.

Elliott, a 6-foot-1, 185-pounder from L.C. Bird High School in Chesterfield, Va., quarterbacked his team to the state title last fall. But schools recruited him to play defense at the next level.

Notre Dame’s interest in Elliott intensified this spring when Irish assistant coach Scott Booker visited the school.

The Irish later held a recruiting meeting and offered Elliott a scholarship. He quickly scheduled a visit to South Bend.

Elliott spent several hours on campus before ending the recruiting process.

As a junior, he passed for 1,800 yards, rushed for another 500 yards and scored 27 total touchdowns. He also shined on the defensive side of the ball in leading Bird to a 13-2 record and the state championship.

Elliott becomes Notre Dame’s seventh commitment in the recruiting class of 2016.
