After a strong camp performance on Tuesday morning Jones met with the Notre Dame coaching staff, received an offer and immediately accepted.
“I always knew that I wanted to play here at ND and when (Brian) VanGorder sat down and told me his plan with me it became more and more of a reality that I couldn’t pass up on,” Jones said.
Jones, a 6-foot-3, 221-pounder from Aquinas Institute in Rochester, N.Y., was no stranger to the Irish. His older brother Jarron is a senior defensive lineman at Notre Dame and he has visited the school several times, including in March for Junior Day.
Because he played quarterback during his junior season the Irish coaching staff encouraged him to return for a summer camp and Jones took care of the rest.
Scout.com ranks Jones as the 58th best outside linebacker in the nation. Notre Dame beat out Boston College, Connecticut, Rutgers, Syracuse and Pittsburgh for his commitment. Jones could also develop at defensive end for the Irish.
