BEAVERTON, Ore. – Jonathan Jones is getting the message about Notre Dame, even he hasn’t seen the Irish for himself. The linebacker from Orlando, Fla., has taken the recruiting pitch of a couple Notre Dame commitments at The Opening this week.
“Notre Dame falls at the No. 3 spot,” Jones said. “I haven’t seen Notre Dame yet. I’ve seen Duke and I’ve seen Michigan, and I’ve got a good evaluation of both of them, so of course they’ll take those top two spots.
“After that Notre Dame is No. 3 just because of the good rapport that I have with the coaches and the players. You have P-Money (Parker Boudreaux) and Tony Jones out here, and they’re telling me the Notre Dame coaches really want me. They want to start something huge, and it’s a good program and they really want me.”
Jones, checking in at Nike headquarters at 5-foot-11, 209-pounds, has official visits lined up for Notre Dame (Sept. 26) and Michigan (Nov. 28).
“My recruiter at Notre Dame is Autry Denson, and we talk on the regular,” Jones said. “He told me he was proud of me for getting out here. I haven’t talked to many coaches from Notre Dame on the defensive side of the ball but Denson said they love my film and if I get up there, they will probably love me and see me playing that middle linebacker spot.”
Jones intends to take all five official visits.
“I’ll be taking all of my officials and then I’ll make my commitment from there,” Jones said. “It might just be on signing day.
“I have to be where God wants me to go. I’m really going to be praying on where God wants me to go. After that I’ll go from there. If God says Notre Dame, then you can bet I’ll be going to Notre Dame.”
Jones is a three-star prospect and is ranked as the No. 15 inside linebacker in the Class of 2016.
