Five-star weighs Irish visit

Notre Dame is in contention of land an official visit from the top-ranked wide receiver in the Class of 2016, five-star Nate Craig.

Notre Dame’s interest in Tampa (Fla.) Catholic five-star wide receiver Nate Craig isn’t new, but interest back from the No. 1 wide receiver is a recent development.

“(Notre Dame) has always been interested in me,” Craig said. “They are one of the schools that has been recruiting me for a long time, probably in the beginning of my junior year.

“I was thinking about them, and it’s about the tradition they have of winning on and off the field. All of it really speaks for itself.”

Notre Dame assistant Autry Denson is leading the recruitment for Craig for the Irish.

“Coach Denson messages me every day,” Craig said. “He’s really motivational and spiritual. What he sends me helps me get through the day. He’s down-to-earth and seems like he has a great head on his shoulders.”

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound wide receiver listed six schools in addition to Notre Dame vying for official visits.

Alabama, Auburn, Miami, Florida, Ohio State, and North Carolina,” Craig said. “I am still talking to my mom to figure things out. I think by September I will know where I want to take my visits.”

For the former Auburn commitment, an atmosphere he finds appealing off the field will be a priority.

“Definitely a place where I can see myself outside of football,” Craig said. “When football is over I still want to feel comfortable there.”
