Notre Dame in the NFL: Week 2

Kicker Kyle Brindza turned in his best day as a professional with four field goals for Tampa Bay, headlining the performances by former Irish players in the NFL. Irish Illustrated rounds them up.

Robert Blanton - safety - Minnesota Vikings

Minnesota (1-1) started Andrew Sendejo ahead of Blanton at strong safety in its 26-16 win over Detroit. Blanton didn’t register a tackle.

Kyle Brindza - kicker - Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Brindza turned in quite a day for the Buccaneers (1-1) in their 26-19 win over New Orleans. He went 4-for-5 on field goal attempts with makes from 55, 35, 22 and 30 yards. Both extra point attempts went through the uprights as well.

Sergio Brown - safety - Jacksonville Jaguars

Brown recorded five tackles (four solo) and a half sack for Jacksonville (1-1) in its 23-20 win over Miami.

David Bruton - safety - Denver Broncos

Bruton totaled four tackles and forced a fumble for Denver (2-0) in its 31-24 win over Kansas City on Thursday night.

Jimmy Clausen - quarterback - Chicago Bears

Clausen relieved an injured Jay Cutler but couldn’t rescue the Bears (0-2) from a 48-23 dismantling by Arizona. He went 14-of-23 for 121 yards and one interception.

Tyler Eifert - tight end - Cincinnati Bengals

Eifert made four catches on five targets for 49 yards and one touchdown as Cincinnati (2-0) took a 24-19 win over San Diego. His touchdown gave the Bengals a 24-13 lead with 8:49 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Anthony Fasano - tight end - Tennessee Titans

Fasano led Tennessee (1-1) in targets (seven), receptions (five) and yards (84) in a 28-14 loss to Cleveland. He got Tennessee on the board with a 19-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter.

Michael Floyd - wide receiver - Arizona Cardinals

Carson Palmer targeted Floyd, who didn’t make any catches, just once in Arizona’s win over the Bears.

Jonas Gray - running back - Miami Dolphins

Gray is currently on the Miami (1-1) practice squad and didn’t dress for Sunday’s 23-20 loss to Jacksonville.

Ryan Harris - offensive tackle - Denver Broncos

Harris made a second consecutive start at tackle for Denver in its win.

J.J. Jansen - long snapper - Carolina Panthers

Jansen played at long snapper for Carolina (2-0) in its 24-17 win over Houston.

TJ Jones - wide receiver - Detroit Lions

Jones didn’t dress for the Lions (0-2) their loss to Minnesota.

Kapron Lewis-Moore - defensive end - Baltimore Ravens

Lewis-Moore played in the season opener but landed on the inactive list for Week 2 against Oakland.

Zack Martin - offensive guard - Dallas Cowboys

Martin started at guard for Dallas (2-0) in a 20-10 win over Philadelphia. He’ll be blocking for a different quarterback over the next couple months with Tony Romo lost to a broken collarbone.

Troy Niklas - tight end - Arizona Cardinals

Niklas made the active roster for Arizona but didn’t factor in the win.

Louis Nix - defensive tackle - New York Giants

Nix didn’t dress for the Giants (0-2) in their 24-20 loss to Atlanta.

Theo Riddick - running back - Detroit Lions

Riddick had five catches for 41 yards and one rush for another five yards in Detroit’s loss. He lost a fumble on that carry, his first of the season.

Cody Riggs - cornerback - Tennessee Titans

Riggs didn’t dress for Tennessee in its loss.

Trevor Robinson - center - San Diego Chargers

Robinson didn’t play for San Diego (1-1) in a 24-19 loss to Cincinnati.

Kyle Rudolph - tight end - Minnesota Vikings

Rudolph made five catches on seven targets for 30 yards and one touchdown. Teddy Bridgewater hit Rudolph from five yards out to put Minnesota up 7-0 in the first quarter.

Harrison Smith - safety - Minnesota Vikings

Smith remains a mainstay for Minnesota at free safety. He made five solo tackles and forced a fumble in the win against Detroit.

Golden Tate - wide receiver - Detroit Lions

Matthew Stafford targeted Tate 10 times and it resulted in six catches for 80 yards.

Manti Teo - linebacker -San Diego Chargers

Te’o totaled 10 tackles (five solo) and added a pass breakup in San Diego’s loss.

Justin Tuck - defensive end - Oakland Raiders

Tuck made four tackles (two solo) as Oakland (1-1) used an offensive barrage to beat Baltimore, 37-33.

Stephon Tuitt - defensive end - Pittsburgh Steelers

Tuitt compiled four tackles (two solo) and 1.5 sacks as the Steelers (1-1) grabbed a 43-18 win over San Francisco.

Darrin Walls - cornerback - New York Jets

Walls hit the inactive list for the Jets (2-0) in their 20-7 win at Indianapolis. Walls tweaked his hamstring earlier in the week.

Chris Watt - center - San Diego Chargers

Watt started for the second straight game in San Diego’s loss.

Ian Williams - defensive tackle - San Francisco 49ers

San Francisco (1-1) suffered a 43-18 loss while Williams made five tackles (three solo) from his interior defensive line spot.

Sam Young - offensive tackle - Jacksonville Jaguars
