What will Notre Dame’s roster look like next season?
There will be at least some rebuilding after captains Ronnie Stanley, Sheldon Day, Joe Schmidt and Matthias Farley depart. And while Will Fuller said he’ll be back, Jaylon Smith and KeiVarae Russell haven’t committed to any comebacks. It won’t be a surprise if Russell signs off after this season. It will be a shock if Smith doesn’t do the same.
That leaves Notre Dame staring at a talented but reshuffled roster that could return seven starters on offense and just five on defense (or six if Jarron Jones is counted).
Irish Illustrated unveils the Scholarship Chart for 2016, our best guess at how Brian Kelly will assemble a roster that should be deep at quarterback and running back. The freshman class could have the same opportunities to impact the season as it did this year through Josh Adams, Equanimeous St. Brown, Jerry Tillery and Alize Jones. But the impact figures to be felt in the secondary.
Following Deon McIntosh’s commitment on Monday, our roster projections have Notre Dame close to the 85-man scholarship limit with more than two months until National Signing Day. While there will be transfers and perhaps a player coming off scholarship, here’s an early look at how the numbers may shake out next season.
