Lyons Has Irish in His Top Three

Woodland Hills high school in Pittsburgh, PA has produced a number of top prospects over the years. The next in line is safety prospect Devon Lyons. The 6-2, 205-pound defensive back recorded a 4.45 at Nike Camp and his stock took off. The Irish have offered him along with a host of other top programs. He recently visited Notre Dame. What was his reaction after his visit?

Devon Lyons had a solid junior year. H recorded 49 tackles and 5 interceptions playing safety last year. He also runs track with a personal best of 10.9 in the 100 meters and 22.8 in the 200 meters.

Quite a few of the top schools have offered Lyons. "I have 23 offers right now. The top schools that have offered are Ohio State, Michigan State, Illinois, Miami, Penn State and Notre Dame."

The Irish have offered him in writing. "Yeah, it's in writing. It came about a month and a half ago."

Lyons also visited Notre Dame over the summer. "It was real nice. I liked the campus a lot. I got to meet all the coaches and they were great guys. I got to see everything there like Touchdown Jesus and the campus. It was a real nice place."

Lyons says that he won't make an early decision. "I will make my decision sometime after the season. I will probably take all five visits. I want to take one or two during the season so I can make my decision earlier. The coaches, the program and how I fit in will be the most important factors to me."

Does Lyons have an interest in Notre Dame? "Notre Dame is in my top three right now. Ohio State and Michigan State are the other two. I like Notre Dame quite a bit."

Comments. Lyons seems focused on his season. I don't think much will change with him until the coaches can call again. Hopefully the Irish can secure one of his visits during the season. He does seem interested but nowhere near making a decision. Top Stories
