McConnell Ready to Report

Adairsville, GA will soon be losing citizen Ashley McConnell. McConnell will be accomplishing a dream he's had since he can remember and McConnell can't wait for August 10th to arrive.

Ashely McConnell is a happy and antsy guy these days. "I can't wait to get there. I've been waiting a long time for this and it's finally getting close. I've wanted this for a very long time and it's going to happen."

McConnell loves football and working out more than anything but work has been getting in the way. "I didn't want to work but I had to get some pocket money. I've been working at the school this summer. Just doing anything that needs to be done. They pay me minimum wage but it's a pretty easy job. I'll tell you though, it's been tough after working all day to come home and lift and run. I've been doing it every day but the last week has been tough. This is my last week at work but I suppose that is life and just something that will make me appreciate what I've got."

McConnell doesn't mind working but it takes time away from what he really wants to do. "I've been lifting and I love to work out. I'm a little over 230 right now and I wanted to be stronger and bigger. I run every day because I want to be in the best physical shape that I can. I don't want to disappoint and I'm not going to be the guy sucking air out there. The first impression is the most important and I want to make the best first impression I can."

August 10th can't come soon enough for McConnell and he'd like to get there sooner. "I'd come tomorrow but my Mom has to work and I've been working. Once I'm done at work I can come but my Mom probably can't make it up there until August 8th. My Uncle could take me up there but I think my Mom wants to take me and what she says is what we'll do. I know she wants to take me up there and I can't blame here for wanting to do that."

McConnell says he's had a pretty boring summer for the most part. "It's been work and working out. On the weekends I might go hang out with my buddies but I usually just work out because I think I'm not doing all that I can. That has been my focus this summer."

The fullback prospect says he plans to major in computer engineering when he enrolls at Notre Dame.

The one thing about McConnell that stands out more than anything is that he wants this very badly. So much so that I think he worries he is not doing enough. That drive and dedication will make him a success on the field and in the class room. I hope McConnell succeeds in everything he wants to accomplish at Notre Dame because he will work harder than anyone to get it. Top Stories
