The Fiesta Bowl was billed as the best showcase of NFL talent in college football’s postseason.
Regardless of how that game unfolded, the numbers in today’s formal NFL Combine invite list back that up. Notre Dame will send 10 former players to the league’s annual meat market in Indianapolis, a number that trails only Ohio State’s list of 14.
Chris Brown, Sheldon Day, Will Fuller, Nick Martin, Romeo Okwara, C.J. Prosise, KeiVarae Russell, Elijah Shumate, Jaylon Smith and Ronnie Stanley will all attend the combine, although the All-American linebacker will only interview. Smith remains in the first month of rehab following the torn ACL and LCL suffered in the Fiesta Bowl. He underwent surgery in mid-January.
The NFL Combine will take place at Lucas Oil Stadium from Feb. 23-29.
The combine invitation list is a major bump from last year when Notre Dame placed just three players at the event and ultimately had just one player drafted when tight end Ben Koyack went in the seventh round.
Notre Dame sent nine players to the NFL Combine two years ago and ultimately produced eight draft picks, a high mark of the Kelly era.
