Big Board: Tight End

On paper, no recruiting outlook at tight end is better than Notre Dame’s.

Notre Dame shouldn’t lose a single tight end due to eligibility after next season, although the Irish are down Tyler Luatua after he announced plans to transfer to BYU.

If all goes to plan, Durham Smythe will enter the 2017 season as a fifth-year senior while Alize’ Jones and Nic Weishar will each have two years remaining.

Notre Dame didn’t sign a true tight end last cycle, but four-star wide receiver signee Chase Claypool could develop as one.

The Irish have four commitments in 2017, and two of those are tight ends ranked No. 1 and No. 2 at the position.

Here’s a look at the Watch List at tight end, where the Irish got their recruiting work done early.
