Drew White was one of four prospects to add Irish offers during Junior Day. For the 6-foot-1, 220-pound linebacker from St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., landing a scholarship from Notre Dame made the Midwest trip all worth it.
“It was great,” White said. “Before I got there they told me they were really interested in me but wanted to see me in-person and wanted me to see campus. So to pick up that offer is a really satisfying feeling.”
White is the younger brother of Auburn quarterback Sean White.
Arkansas, LSU, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio State, Syracuse, Wake Forest, West Virginia and Wisconsin have also offered White, who named meeting the coaching staff as the highlight of his first-time visit to Notre Dame.
“Definitely talking to all of the coaches,” White said. “I was able to talk to all of them. Coach (Autry) Denson is from Broward County, so that was cool. I talked to coach (Mike) Elston, who would be my position coach so it was cool to see what he was like. And then same with coach (Brian) VanGorder. He has some experience coaching in Florida from early in his career.
“Then I got pulled into Brian Kelly’s office, and he reiterated what all of the coaches had told me and then I got the official offer.”
After watching the start of Notre Dame’s first spring practice in pads, White received a tour of campus.
“It was awesome,” White said. “So special. It’s definitely unique from any other school that I’ve visited. Seeing the entire campus from the bus was fascinating.”
Before seeing Notre Dame, White’s most recent visit was to Florida in January.
“I haven’t really visited any other places this spring,” White said. “I visited Florida a while ago and I might visit some other schools this spring and summer but I’m not sure which ones yet.”
Notre Dame is recruiting White, who missed most of last season with a foot injury, to play the Will and Mike linebacker positions.
“I don’t have a top list or a top five or anything like that,” White said. “But I definitely put Notre Dame at the top. They’re definitely giving me a lot to think about.”
A decision could come before White’s senior season.
“I’m not sure, but I think I’ll be ready to decide before my senior year.”
