South Carolina safety talks Irish offer

Scout 300 safety Davondre Robinson of Santee (S.C.) Lake Marion discusses picking up a Notre Dame offer on Monday evening.

Irish assistant Autry Denson landed defensive back Troy Pride Jr. from the Palmetto State last cycle. Now Denson hopes to repeat that success with another top defensive back from South Carolina in four-star safety Davondre Robinson.

“Coach Denson has been checking up on me lately,” Robinson said. “But the offer still came out of the blue. We talked on the phone, and he told me I was a good player and he wants me to visit.”

The 5-foot-11, 190-pound safety of Santee’s Lake Marion also holds offers from Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina, Penn State, Virginia Tech, South Carolina and Wake Forest. The Irish are new to his radar.

“I don’t know too much about Notre Dame,” Robinson said. “I saw them play when they lost in the rain to Clemson. Other than that, I have to research them.”

Robinson has visited Alabama, Clemson, South Carolina and Virginia Tech so far this spring. No other trips are on Robinson’s radar, although he plans to extend his recruitment into the fall so he can take official visits.

“Playing time, of course,” said Robinson, when asked what he’s prioritizing in his college search. “And I want the academics to help me get a job after football ends.”

Robinson stars as a multi-sport athlete for Lake Marion. He plays shooting guard for the basketball team and outfielder for the baseball team.

“Football is my future, though,” Robinson said. “I go get the ball. I attack it when it’s in the air.” Top Stories
