Last spring, a large group of California prospects visited Notre Dame during a Midwest trip to participate in a 7-on-7 tournament in the Chicago area. The Irish signed two prospects from that B2G Sports team, Javon McKinley and D.J. Morgan.
On Monday, B2G Sports returned to South Bend and the Irish offered three players: Max Williams Max Williams, Bru McCoy and Aashari Crosswell.
Williams was ecstatic to receive his 10th offer.
“It was a real blessing to receive an offer from Notre Dame,” said the 5-foot-10, 165-pound cornerback from Junipero Serra High School in Gardena, Calif. “It's such a prestigious offer and has so much tradition. I'm just blessed to have one from there.”
Williams spent some time talking with Irish defensive backs coach Todd Lyght, who presented the offer.
“We took a tour first and then the recruiting coordinator took me aside and took me to the DB coach,” Williams said. “We were just talking and then he offered right before I left. He said he really liked my film and the way I played. He said he was offering me a scholarship to go to Notre Dame.”
Arizona, Boston College, Florida State, Illinois, LSU, Michigan, Nebraska, South Carolina and Washington also have offered the 2019 prospect. Southern Cal and California are among the schools showing early interest.
“It's real crazy but I just stay humble and keep working to try to get more,” Williams said of the early recruiting interest.
As a freshman, Williams broke into the starting lineup and recorded 34 tackles with three interceptions and he broke up four other passes.
“I was nervous my first game,” he said. “When I made my first play, my first tackle, it all went away.”
Williams plans to work hard to continue to improve as a cornerback.
“I play with real good technique,” he said. “I like to press guys on the line and get in the receiver's face. I'm real aggressive.”
B2G Sports also visited Michigan during its Midwest swing which let Williams get a look at the Wolverines.
He hopes to see more schools in the near future with a return trip to South Bend on his wish list.
“This summer I'm not really sure yet,” he said. “I have to talk to my dad about that but I'd definitely like to visit Notre Dame again. It was fun up there. It was a good visit.”
