Wide receiver Jordan Pouncey of Winter Park (Fla.) is cutting his summer college tour short.
Instead of ending the eight-stop bus tour with his teammates at Florida State, he’ll deviate from the group and head to South Bend.
“I really want to visit Notre Dame for Irish Invasion, so when the bus heads to Florida State, I’ll go with one of my coaches instead to Notre Dame,” Pouncey said. “It’s the tradition of the Irish. It’s second to none.”
Notre Dame offered the three-star receiver last week, joining Alabama, Auburn, Duke, Georgia, Louisville, Maryland, Michigan State, North Carolina, Penn State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.
Even with Notre Dame not seriously involved until recently, Pouncey named running backs coach Autry Denson as the coach recruiting him hardest.
“I would say coach Autry Denson,” Pouncey said. “He hits my phone every day. He’s a big quote guy. He sends me quotes every day. That’s pretty cool. I can count on it to start my day.
“He came to my school this spring but I didn’t talk to him because of the rules. I talk to him on the phone a bunch.”
The 6-foot-2, 185-pound receiver named two priorities for choosing a school.
“Probably playing time and my relationship with the coaches,” Pouncey said.
Prior to visiting Notre Dame, Pouncey will visit Duke, Clemson, Georgia, North Carolina, North Carolina State and Wake Forest. He’ll also visit LSU this summer.
Pouncey has a list of top schools, but he’s not yet ready to release them to the public.
“The list is on the notepad on my phone,” Pouncey said. “I have a top 10 and I’ll narrow it down to my top five for official visits, and then I’ll choose where I want to go.”
Pouncey is cousins with NFL linemen and twins Mike and Maurkice Pouncey.
