Brandon Robinson, the 6'0 185lb (4.4) defensive back from The Breck School in Minneapolis is being recruited by teams from coast to coast. From California, to Boston, colleges are getting in line to offer Mr. Robinson a scholarship. IrishEyes caught up with Robinson as he was heading out the door.
What schools are Robinson considering? "I'm pretty open right now. Just sitting back enjoying the process. The schools that I am focusing on are Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Boston College, Stanford, UCLA, and Vanderbilt" said Robinson.
There have been many reports that have said Boston College, and Stanford are leading for his services. When asked about that, Robinson responded, "No, that's not true. I'm really open right now. I am strongly considering both of those schools, but I wouldn't say they are leading."
Robinson admitted that most schools are recruiting him as a DB, but some have also offered him as an athlete. He finished his junior season with 53 receptions, for 777 yards and 11 touchdowns. On defense he had 8 interceptions, and brought four of them back for scores. He also returned two kickoffs for touchdowns as well. His classroom stats are also impressive. Robinson boasts a 3.3 GPA, and scored a 24 on the ACT.
Of all the teams he listed, he didn't mention Notre Dame. Where are the Irish in the equation? "I was getting a lot of letters from Notre Dame but they stopped. I was suppose to camp at Notre Dame, but I couldn't make it. I was considering Notre Dame, but I think they stopped recruiting me."
Robinson's decision will come some time after his senior season. "I just want to focus on my season. We have two a days coming up, and we have a chance to be really good this season. I want to focus all my attention on my team. After than, I'll worry about a decision. My decision will come down to a school that can offer me a great education. I'll also be looking at the school's diversity, and how good their alumni support network is."
Comments: Robinson was by far one of the most eloquent kids I've talked to yet. For some reason, the Irish backed off of Robinson. IrishEyes will stay in touch with Robinson to see if things change.
