Florida receiver pounces on Irish offer

Winter Park (Fla.) wide receiver Jordan Pouncey, who touts more than 40 offers, gave his pledge to head coach Brian Kelly during Irish Invasion.

Moments after the workout portion of Irish Invasion concluded, wide receiver Jordan Pouncey followed a student assistant into the gold seats on the West side of Notre Dame Stadium.

Brian Kelly met him halfway in the bleachers. An intimate conversation, hand shake, and hug followed as Pouncey gave his commitment to the head coach.

"I feel like I'm in a dream," Pouncey said. "It doesn't feel real at all."

The 6-foot-2 ½, 186-pound receiver chose Notre Dame over offers from Alabama, Auburn, Duke, Florida, Georgia, Louisville, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia Tech.

The Irish offered in late May, but the foundation of Pouncey’s relationship with recruiter Autry Denson was built months prior.

“Coach Denson has been recruiting me really hard even before they offered,” said Pouncey last week. “He’s a Florida guy, I’m a Florida guy, so we can relate to a lot of things. We have built such a strong relationship since the spring season started. That will go a long way.”

Florida offered Pouncey last week, but Notre Dame overcame the in-state pull and family connections to the Gators. Pouncey is cousins with NFL offensive linemenand former Florida standouts Mike and Maurkice Pouncey.

Pouncey visited nearly 15 schools in 10 days, and Notre Dame received the final visit.

Pouncey is Notre Dame’s second commitment of the weekend and 12th of the 2017 class.
