Ademilola twins commit to Notre Dame

Notre Dame doubled its commitment total in Class of 2018 with the addition of twin defenders Justin and Jayson Ademilola of Jersey City (N.J.) St. Peter’s Prep.

Notre Dame added its third and fourth commitments in the Class of 2018 on Sunday when twins Jayson and Justin Ademilola pledged to the Irish after weekend visits to South Bend for camp.

The Ademilola brothers both called Notre Dame’s coaching staff around 2 p.m. to break the news before taking to social media.

The Jersey City (N.J.) St. Peter’s Prep standouts touted offers from Auburn, Boston College, Clemson, Georgia, Maryland, Michigan, Miami, Michigan State, Penn State and Virginia.

Notre Dame offered the brothers after their visit. Each knew exactly what they wanted to do when those offers came down. In fact, they’d been planning for this for weeks.

“I think they had a feeling we were going to commit when we offered,” Jayson said. “We told coach (Brian) Kelly that me and my brother were coming to Notre Dame and were joining the family. They were excited. The whole staff was excited. They knew me and my brother were two of the best defensive linemen in the country.”

While the twins committed together, they don’t project at the same position. Jayson said he’s now 6-foot-3, 285 pounds and will play on the interior, while Justin is 6-foot-2 ½, 240 pounds and set for an edge rusher role.

The St. Peter’s Prep standouts saw a familiar face in South Bend in quarterback Brandon Wimbush, one of the New Jersey program’s all-time greats.

“We knew Notre Dame is a place we wanted to be,” Justin said. “We kind of knew we were going to commit a week-and-a-half ago. We knew coming out here, we’d take this visit and get this offer. If feels good to (commit with my brother) and we’re excited about that. We look forward to keep working and get to Notre Dame.”

The Ademilola twins join quarterback Phil Jurkovec and running back Markese Stepp as members of Notre Dame’s 2018 recruiting class. Stepp had already targeted them via social media. Now the Ademilola twins will do some work of their own in recruiting.

“We’re talking about a New Jersey pipeline that we’re going to start building up,” Jayson said. “Notre Dame, just the name speaks for itself. Great New Jersey tradition, they’re bringing up Brandon Wimbush. Coach (Keith) Gilmore, coach (Scott) Booker, coach Kelly, they’re all great people.

“We have Phil and Markese, my brother, we’re building a top class right now. I’m going to put on my recruiter hat and help recruit great people to Notre Dame.” Top Stories
