Salvon Ahmed schedules Irish official

One of Notre Dame’s top defensive back targets has locked in his official visit to Notre Dame. The Irish are among the top five for Salvon Ahmed, who is planning a mid-fall decision.

Notre Dame is among the top five for one of the fastest players in the Class of 2017.

Kirkland (Wash.) Juanita four-star athlete Salvon Ahmed, who clocked a 4.32 at The Opening, enters the fall with Notre Dame, Oregon, Stanford, USC and Washington still in contention.

Then nation’s No. 11 athlete will get his first look at Notre Dame in September.

“The only official visit I have scheduled so far is to Notre Dame for the Michigan State game,” Ahmed said. “I know that will be the first one. I’m looking forward to meeting all the coaches and checking out the game atmosphere.”

The Irish offered Ahmed last April. Irish defensive backs coach Todd Lyght has been working to get the 6-foot-1, 190-pound athlete on campus ever since.

“I like the tradition, the coaching staff, how Notre Dame plans to use me, my relationship with the coaches and how they talk to me about school and my family and how we have just normal conversations,” Ahmed said. “I like that I talk to both coach Lyght and coach (Brian) Kelly.”

It’s possible not every school in Ahmed’s top five receives an official visit considering his fast-approaching decision timeline.

“I’m going to make a decision in September or October, so I may only take three official visits,” Ahmed said. “Like I said, Notre Dame is the only one I have scheduled so far but I have a couple dates in mind for some other ones.”

Notre Dame is recruiting Ahmed for defensive back, specifically cornerback.

“Most schools like me as athlete but Notre Dame sees me as corner,” Ahmed said. “It doesn’t matter to me where I play, I just want to get on the field.” Top Stories
