Notre Dame will go with four captains this season.
On Wednesday the football program announced seniors Mike McGlinchey, James Onwualu, Torii Hunter Jr. and Isaac Rochell will serve as captains for the upcoming season.
“Everyone wants to talk leadership and certainly they have that, but they have the experience and understanding what it takes on a day-to-day basis to bring others along with them and the intense spotlight that is at Notre Dame,” said Brian Kelly. “As we enter the season, things start to shift and focus on playing games and what goes on with that. These guys have been in the battles. They have maneuvered through the process, have got great experience. They’re great young men, great character.

“I trust them to be great representatives of Notre Dame, both on and off the field.”
They follow last season's five-player group of Sheldon Day, Nick Martin, Joe Schmidt, Jaylon Smith and Matthias Farley.
In an oddity of circumstance, the captaincy calls mean Brian Kelly has yet to name a quarterback as a captain in his seven seasons in South Bend.
