Salvon Ahmed sees the recruiting finish line.
Ahmed, a four-star athlete from Kirkland, Wash., revealed Wednesday via Twitter plans to announce on Sept. 23 a verbal commitment. He’ll do so during a ceremony at Juanita High School, where the season begins this week.
Notre Dame, Oregon, Stanford, USC and Washington are the remaining contenders.
Each Pac-12 program has hosted Ahmed at least once. Notre Dame hasn’t, but will do so days before the announcement. Ahmed is scheduled to visit the weekend of Sept. 17, during which the Irish host Michigan State in a primetime game.
Defensive backs coach Todd Lyght has helped Notre Dame maintain its spot in the top group with a longstanding relationship. But visiting campus is something Ahmed has been anticipating.
“I’ve heard so much great things about the campus,” Ahmed told Irish Illustrated in July. “I just wanna see it and be able to get a feel. I feel personally that I would love to be at the school but I wanna get that feel of, ‘Am I really gonna love it here if I don’t have football?’ I feel like I would. I just wanna get that feeling and see the game atmosphere, everything you get from an official visit.”
Irish Illustrated will scout Ahmed next weekend during a trip to the Seattle area.
