Commit Recap: Phil Jurkovec has the look

Quarterback commit Phil Jurkovec starred again as Pine-Richland rolled. Elsewhere, Jordan Pouncey dominated on offense and special teams while injuries clipped a couple other Irish commits.

Notre Dame commitment Phil Jurkovec completed 17-of-25 passes for 367 yards and five touchdowns in a 51-20 win over Seneca Valley. He added 33 yards on the ground in the win that improved Pine-Richland to 2-1.

The junior credited some rushing success for setting the tone.

“We were able to run the ball pretty well and able to get some big yards on short passes which really helps our offense,” he said.

The Rams have won two straight since suffering a 28-27 loss to Ohio’s defending state champion St. Edward in the first game of the season.

Pine-Richland couldn’t protect a first half lead in that loss.

Jurkovec and the Rams have stuck to their game plan ever since.

“We haven't really changed much in terms of plays since the loss to St. Ed's,” Jurkovec said. “We were able to gash them in the first half but they stuck us in the second by playing tight and really well on the perimeter and by blitzing us up the middle.”

Watching Notre Dame’s offense put up 86 points in its first two games has Jurkovec excited about the future.

“DeShone (Kizer) has played really well and he's leading that offense that is looking dangerous,” he said. “It's cool to see him running plays that we have at Pine-Richland so I'm definitely watching him to learn.”
