Notre Dame in the NFL: Week 5

Theo Riddick turned in another strong game for the Lions this week as they rallied for a win. Meanwhile, injury attrition hit more than one former Irish player. Irish Illustrated takes you around the league from a Notre Dame perspective.

Arizona: WR Michael Floyd, TE Troy Niklas

Floyd didn’t make a catch for Arizona (2-3) in its 33-21 win over San Francisco. Niklas (wrist) is on injured reserve. His season is likely over.

Baltimore: OT Ronnie Stanley, DE Kapron Lewis-Moore

Stanley, who’s the starting left tackle for the Ravens, was inactive for the second straight week while battling a foot injury. Baltimore dropped to 3-2 with a 16-10 loss to Washington. Lewis-Moore remains on the practice squad.

Buffalo: S Robert Blanton

Blanton had four tackles for Buffalo (3-2) in a 30-19 win over the Rams.

Carolina: LS J.J. Jansen

After playing in the Super Bowl last season, Jansen has experienced a rough road so far. Carolina fell to 1-4 with a 17-14 loss to Tampa Bay.

Cincinnati: TE Tyler Eifert, CB KeiVarae Russell

Eifert (back) and Russell were again inactive for Cincinnati (2-3) in a 28-14 loss to Dallas. Russell has yet to play for the Bengals since being claimed off waivers. Eifert, who also had offseason ankle surgery and hasn’t played this season, should be close to returning.

Cleveland: George Atkinson III

Atkinson didn’t return any kicks this week but made one tackle for Cleveland (0-4) in a 33-13 loss to New England.

Dallas: WR Chris Brown, OL Zack Martin, LB Jaylon Smith

Martin started at right guard for Dallas (4-1) in its 28-14 win over Cincinnati. Smith is on the reserve/non-football injury list, meaning he’ll miss at least the first six weeks for sure. Brown, an undrafted free agent signing, is on injured reserve for the season after breaking his foot in preseason practice.

Detroit: RB Theo Riddick, WR Golden Tate, TJ Jones

Riddick led Detroit (2-3) with 11 carries for 49 yards in a 24-23 win over Philadelphia. He added six receptions for 33 yards and two touchdowns. Matthew Stafford hit Riddick from a yard out to give the Lions a 7-0 lead with 9:37 left in the first quarter. They connected again with less than a minute left in the first quarter from 17 yards to make it a 14-0 game. Tate made three catches for 39 yards while also adding three carries for six yards.

Houston: WR Will Fuller, OL Nick Martin

Fuller had just one catch for four yards in Houston’s 31-13 loss to Minnesota. He also had one punt return for 14 yards. The Texans are now 3-2 this season. Martin is on injured reserve after preseason ankle surgery.

Indianapolis: DB Matthias Farley

Farley continued to get special teams work but didn’t make a tackle for Indianapolis (2-3) in a 29-23 win over Chicago.

Jacksonville: DL Sheldon Day, TE Ben Koyack

Jacksonville (1-3) had its bye this week.

Minnesota: TE Kyle Rudolph, S Harrison Smith

Rudolph had two catches for 15 yards as Minnesota moved to 5-0 with a 31-13 win over the Texans. Smith had four tackles, two of which were solo.

New York Giants:  DE Romeo Okwara, LB Ishaq Williams

Okwara made the active roster but no tackles for the Giants (2-3) in their 23-16 loss to Green Bay. Williams remains on the practice squad.

Pittsburgh: OT Ryan Harris, DE Stephon Tuitt

Tuitt had two tackles for Pittsburgh (4-1) in a 31-13 win over the Jets. Harris injured his leg in Week 4 and hit injured reserve this week, meaning his season is likely over.

San Diego: LB Manti Te’o, OL Chris Watt

Te’o is on injured reserve after suffering a season-ending torn Achilles in Week 3. Watt (knee) is on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, which means he’ll miss the first six weeks of the season at a minimum. San Diego fell to 1-4 with a 34-31 loss to the Raiders.

San Francisco: DL Ian Williams

Williams will miss the entire season after an offseason ankle injury. San Francisco is 1-4 after a 33-21 loss to the Cardinals.

Seattle: RB C.J. Prosise

Seattle (3-1) had its bye this week.

Tennessee: TE Anthony Fasano, CB Cody Riggs

Fasano had 10 yards on one catch for Tennessee (2-3) in a 30-17 win over Miami. Riggs didn’t make the active roster this week.

Washington: S David Bruton

Bruton hit injured reserve Wednesday after suffering a concussion in last week’s game. He’d started all four games at safety. Washington is 3-2 after a 16-10 win over the Ravens. Top Stories
