Connections at IMG Academy could net Notre Dame some help in the defensive backfield.
Four-star safety Grant Delpit will see the Irish up close this weekend on an official visit for the Stanford game. Delpit, a Texas native now at the prep school in Bradenton, Fla., had been a Notre Dame target before giving LSU a verbal commitment in July.
Delpit confirmed the visit plans in a text message after IMG Academy moved to 6-0 on Thursday with a 38-0 win over West Palm Beach (Fla.) Oxbridge Academy.
Notre Dame was among the scholarship offers Delpit considered before giving LSU a summer commitment.
Others in on the 6-foot-3, 181-pound prospect included Florida, Alabama, Auburn, Baylor, Cal, Clemson, Florida State, Houston, Miami, Michigan, Ole Miss, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TCU, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M and USC.
Delpit won’t be the only IMG Academy product in South Bend this weekend.
Four-star offensive tackle Robert Hainsey, an Irish commitment since July, is on the visit list. Same goes for four-star junior cornerback Houston Griffith, a Chicago native that transferred to IMG before this season.
The Irish have just one safety commitment in their ’16 class in four-star athlete Isaiah Robertson from Chicagoland.
