A review of Notre Dame’s scholarship chart, including the program’s 15 incoming freshmen, three weeks prior to National Signing Day 2017.

Notre Dame has 84 scholarships filled for the upcoming football season as of January 11, 2017. That includes all fifth-year senior candidates listed below, only one of which is certain (publicly) to return:

Thus, pending five graduate student decisions (listed below), Irish head coach Brian Kelly can technically take pledges from just two more members of the class of 2017, but that technicality is misleading.

Instead, expect Notre Dame to aim for (achieving is another matter) a goal of 87-88 scholarship players post-Signing Day with the reality that a handful will no longer be with the program (transfers, medical retirements, other…) when the NCAA mandates an 85-player scholarship roster to open the 2017 season.

Juniors (9): Josh Adams (4), Dexter Williams (4), C.J. Sanders (4), Equanimeous St. Brown (4), Jerry Tillery (4), Te’von Coney (3), Nick Coleman (3), Nicco Fertitta (3), and Justin Yoon (4) – Each has two seasons of eligibility remaining.

*Juniors/RS-Sophomores (13): Brandon Wimbush (4), Miles Boykin (4), Chris Finke (NR), Alizé Jones (5), Trevor Ruhland (3), Tristen Hoge (4), Micah Dew-Treadway (3), Elijah Taylor (4), Brandon Tiassum (3), Josh Barajas (4), Asmar Bilal (4), and Ashton White (3) – Each technically has eligibility through the 2019 football season.

*Junior Shaun Crawford (4) still possesses four seasons of collegiate eligibility due to separate injuries occurring in August and early September of his freshman and sophomore seasons, respectively.
