Evan Fields doesn’t need much longer to sort through his options.
Fresh off an official visit to Notre Dame, the three-star safety from Oklahoma City plans to announce a verbal commitment Jan. 30 during a ceremony at Midwest City High School. Fields will choose among six finalists.
Arizona State, Notre Dame, UCLA, Kansas State, TCU and Oregon remain standing.
Fields has taken all five official visits. Notre Dame played host this weekend, with Fields accompanied on the trip. He attended yesterday’s basketball game against Syracuse and took part in a photo football within the football program too.
UCLA hosted Fields last week. Kansas State and Arizona State got the 6-foot-1, 187-pound prospect on campus in November and December, respectively. Oklahoma State also got a visit.
Notre Dame made its move into the mix with an early December scholarship offer.
Defensive backs coach Todd Lyght made the initial offer. Since then the staff has followed up by sending both recruiting coordinator Mike Elston and new defensive coordinator Mike Elko to visit with Fields in the last two weeks, culminating with an official visit.
Over the next week, coaches from all the finalists will likely visit again, with Notre Dame certain to follow up.
In barely a week all those coaches will know where they stand. So will everybody else.
