Four-star linebacker Dax Hollifield had already identified a top three of North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia Tech.
The 6-foot-2, 225-pounder from Shelby, N.C., might have to add a fourth school to his short list after Notre Dame offered on Wednesday.
“Awesome,” Hollifield said of the Irish offer. “That's my dad's favorite place of any.”
As a junior, Hollifield recorded a team-high 146 tackles with 52 tackles for loss with 18 sacks in leading the Shelby Golden Lions to a 16-0 record and a state title.
“Hollifield is the prototypical inside linebacker,” said Scout.com Southeast Analyst Michael Clark. “He has great vision, is instinctive and can play sideline to sideline. Hollifield is extremely physical and very aggressive. He is comfortable in any defensive scheme and does a great job of putting himself in position to make plays.”
Hollifield plans to sit down with his father to schedule a visit to Notre Dame in the near future. The linebacker said he won’t be able to make it to Junior Day in South Bend this weekend, however.
