Adam Speer Is About To Breakout

Chaminade College Prep HS lineman Adam Speer is another recruit that is looking to impress college coaches this fall. After recording 88 tackles and 6 tackles on defense, he followed up with 64 pancake blocks and allowed only 10 sacks his junior season. Irish Eyes caught up with Adam to find out where he was in the recruiting process. </p>

Almost getting late in the evening, Irish Eyes caught Adam relaxing at home and asked who has offered him right now. "I have a couple," he said. "Oregon State, Boise State, and Fresno State have all offered. UCLA and USC are close."

Knowing that he camped at Notre Dame this summer, we asked how he performed. "I did pretty well," he said. "I was perfect in the 1 on 1 drills and the fastest lineman at camp. I was also named the strongest player there."

Able to bench press 380 lbs and squat 520 lbs, the conversation took a humorous turn about how much he can leg press. "I don't know," Adam confessed.

"You haven't tried?" I asked.

"No, it's just that I haven't found a machine that can handle enough weight yet," he confided. "I know I can at least leg press 1200 lbs."

After having such an impressive camp, Adam left with positive thoughts about the football program. "It was impressive," he said. "I enjoyed everything. The tradition. We got to see the locker room and the stadium."

With such accomplishments, Adam had a chance to spend time with Coach Willingham and had only high praise. "He was a great man," Adam admitted. "Definitely a coach I want to play for."

With Notre Dame interested, we asked which of the coaches he was talking too and what they liked about him. "Coach Mattison," he said. "They love my athleticism, because I play both sides of the ball, defensive tackle and offensive tackle. And they want to see my first game or two."

With such obvious prowess on the football field, we wondered if it was disheartening to not have as many offers like other highly touted prospects get. "Not really," he said nonchalantly. "Offensive linemen have more of a maturing process. There is a big jump in skill level from junior to senior year."

After hearing that comment, I realized how mature this young man really was. On final note, we asked him what his thoughts were of Notre Dame. "Impressive," he said. "I enjoy everything about it. The tradition is amazing."

Comments: Not only does Adam seem to be a great prospect as a football player, but his maturity and unselfishness seems to fit the Notre Dame mold. If the Irish offer, they will definately be in the mix. Top Stories
