Micah Jones doesn’t need much more time to decide on a college destination.
Fresh off a trip to Notre Dame last weekend, Jones is ready to make his choice in a matter of days rather than playing out the recruiting process into spring. The three-star wide receiver from Gurnee, Ill., revealed plans Monday to announce Friday a verbal commitment.
Iowa, Notre Dame, Michigan State, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Illinois and Northwestern are the finalists. Jones also holds scholarship offers from Minnesota, Mississippi State, Indiana, Iowa State, Syracuse and Vanderbilt, among others.
Up until this week, Jones planned to continue sorting through those options for another couple months.
Michigan State had a visit on the schedule and the 6-foot-5, 195-pound prospect considered April the month during which he’d announce a commitment. But spending last weekend at Notre Dame for Junior Day at least showed Jones he needed to see no more.
Irish players, coaches and current verbal commitments left Jones impressed.
“They are definitely one of my top schools and will be up there until the end,” Jones said after the visit. “I love everything about Notre Dame and what it has to offer not only on the field but off it as well. Like they continue to say it’s a 4-to-40 year decision. And they really stuck by that on my visit.”
Now Notre Dame will wait just a few more days to see if its efforts were enough to bring Jones into the fold.
