Micah Jones essentially finished off his recruitment last weekend, even if he didn’t expect to.
When Jones attended Junior Day last weekend, turning the trip into an overnight visit, the junior receiver left South Bend with plans to maintain a commitment date later this spring. Instead, Notre Dame made a winning case for the three-star receiver from Gurnee, Ill., who announced for the Irish today during a ceremony at Warren Township High School.
Irish Illustrated is on the scene and will have full updates and video with Jones later today.
Notre Dame won out over fellow finalists Iowa, Michigan State, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Illinois and Northwestern. Indiana, Syracuse, Vanderbilt and Mississippi State were among the other offers.
Jones is the first wide receiver pledge for Notre Dame in the Class of 2018. The 6-foot-5, 195-pound prospect makes 10 total commitments for the Irish and four since the beginning of this week.
Four-star cornerback Kalon Gervin, four-star safety Derrik Allen and offensive tackle Cole Mabry have all jumped on board since Monday. Gervin and Mabry also attended Junior Day.
The Irish class remains No. 2 in the Scout.com Team Rankings.
