Top Ohio athlete set for Sophomore Day visit

Sophomore defensive back Moses Douglass first visited Notre Dame last summer for the Irish Invasion. He’ll return early next month for an in-depth look at the school.

Sophomore defensive back Moses Douglass got his first look at Notre Dame last summer when he attended the Irish Invasion.

He’ll get a better perspective when he attends Sophomore Day on April 2.

“We’re going to get a tour around the school and watch a practice,” said Douglass, a 6-foot-2, 186-pounder from Springfield, Ohio. “It’s just a sophomore day.”

Douglass worked out at last summer’s camp with Irish defensive backs coach Todd Lyght and also interacted with recruiting coordinator Mike Elston, who has since visited Springfield High School on a couple of occasions.

The two have developed a strong relationship.

“I like him, for sure,” Douglass said. “He seems like a cool guy.”

Douglass’ father and head coach, Maurice Douglass, a former Chicago Bear, has communicated with the Irish even more frequently.

“I haven't been able to talk to them much but my dad has,” Moses Douglass said. “He said they're interested. I like them a lot. They have a good history as far as football and their academics is incredible.”

Notre Dame’s coaching staff hasn’t pinpointed a position for Douglass just yet. The Irish have talked about using him as a safety, cornerback or even a linebacker.

Douglass holds 13 offers, including Michigan, Kentucky and Iowa.

He also plans to visit Tennessee, Ohio State and possibly Iowa later this spring.

“I’m starting to look at schools a lot more and research a little bit,” he said. “I’m also going to the Sound Mind, Sound Body camp and the Nike and Under Armour Camps.”

Douglass suffered a broken ankle last fall but returned in time for the playoffs. This spring he’s running track.

“I'm back,” he said. “I'm fine now. Everything is going well. It's stronger and I’m running track this year. I came back in time for the playoff game.”
