Class of 2018
Position: Outside linebacker
Top offers: Alabama, Auburn, South Carolina
College coaches have to love seeing a highlight film for an outside linebacker or defensive end where the first clip includes covering a kickoff. Jibunor sprints right down the field to open his video (linked below) and barrels over a would-be blocker. There versatility with this 6-foot-3, 200-pound athlete. He’s listed at outside linebacker but won MVP honors on the defensive line at The Opening Atlanta, where he unleashed his athleticism against some top offensive tackles. Where does Jibunor project at the next level? Perhaps the better question is, who cares? Jibunor has length and explosiveness in spades. He could end up rushing the passer for a living down the line.
“Athens (Ga.) Christian athlete Richard Jibunor plays all over the field on Fridays but one of the position he had never truly worked is where he ended up excelling Sunday -- defensive end. Telling Scout he made the move from linebacker because there were so many talented offensive linemen he wanted to stack up against, the three-star soaked in all the coaching during individual drills before seldom losing a rep during one-on-one competition en route to being named defensive line MVP. With a long and put together frame, explosiveness and a clear desire to learn and round out his game, it's no surprise programs like Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee and many others are high on his list.” - Scout.com recruiting analyst John Garcia, after watching Jibunor at The Opening regional in Atlanta
Getting Jibunor out of the South looks like it’ll take some serious work. Alabama, Auburn and Tennessee are in line to receive upcoming visits. Auburn could be the early leader. But it’s pretty clear Jibunor’s offer list is going to keep expanding. Perhaps if it goes national enough he starts to explore possibilities away from home.
Autry Denson, Mike Elston
Two, assuming Jibunor is seen as a pass rusher. Notre Dame needs prospects that can come off the edge in the worst way. Jayson and Justin Ademilola are both committed at defensive line and are quality prospects, but likely to make their impact on the interior down the road. Jibunor is the kind of long, lean pass rusher the Irish simply lack and are trying to find in the Class of 2018.
