LaVonte Valentine

Offer Alert: Lavonte Valentine

Running back target Christian Turner is off the board to Michigan, so Notre Dame has expanded the search for a complement to Markese Stepp by one. Florida speedster Lavonte Valentine is up next on the offer list.

Class of 2018
Position: Running Back
Top offers: Florida, LSU, USC

As Notre Dame continues to pursue more running backs, it’s become clear versatility is a critical factor. Valentine put up over 1,000 all-purpose yards last season, almost 200 of which came in the passing game. The first clip in his highlight film (linked below) is a screen pass that turns into a long touchdown run. Valentine shows some wiggle in the open field and, perhaps more importantly, elite top end speed. He’s not the type of running back that’s going to be caught from behind too often. Valentine lists a 4.31-second 40-yard dash and competes in track as well. Taking part in both sports at the college level is something Valentine intends to do.

"I will not commit to any school that doesn't allow me to do both.” — Valentine to Scout on playing football and running track in college

Pulling Valentine out of SEC territory will be no simple task. Florida, South Carolina and LSU are some of the top early contenders. Valentine spoke highly of the Gators after a spring visit. He wants to run track in college as well, so that’ll be part of the decision-making process as his recruitment unfolds.

Autry Denson

Two. Notre Dame already has a solid verbal commitment at running back in Markese Stepp, a four-star prospect out of Cathedral High School in Indianapolis. Autry Denson and Chip Long have continued to seek out a complementary piece. Christian Turner recently came off the board to Michigan after making a visit. He’d also stopped by Notre Dame and some felt the Irish led, including a few verbal commitments. Expanding the board just a little bit makes sense with Turner not an option.
