Massey Down To Three

Michael Massey, the outstanding defensive lineman from powerhouse St. Ignatius HS in Ohio discusses football, recruiting, and family with IrishEyes.

Michael Massey, the 6'5, 240lb DE (4.7) has offers from a big time programs. As a junior, Massey has 81 tackles and 9 sacks. This season, after only three games, Massey has 6 sacks. Ohio State, Michigan, Pitt, Boston College, Colorado and South Carolina have all taken notice and offered Massey scholarships from their respective programs. What schools are Massey really focusing on?

"Well I'm pretty much down to three schools-Michigan, Ohio State, and Notre Dame" said Massey. "Those are the schools I'm really focusing on right now. Ohio State and Michigan are ahead of Notre Dame obviously since Notre Dame hasn't offered" he continued.

Has he heard from Notre Dame lately? "No. I use to hear from them a lot in the summer, but I haven't heard anything from them since July."

Massey has two brother's that have played Division I football as well. Ironically, his brother Jim played for Ohio State, and his brother Pat now plays for Michigan. Do you they add any pressure to Massey? "Yea a little. They both want me to go to their school. They drop little hints here and there, then try to stop one another from talking about their schools. I usually just walk away and let them talk about it with each other. They always have heated debates. I try my best to not let either of them influence my decision. I'm just going to visit both of the schools, and decide on the one I feel most comfortable."

When will that decision come? "I'll decide sometime after my season. I want to focus on my season, so I won't be visiting any schools until after the season. This way I can focus on getting the job done on the field.

Comments: This will be a two horse race to the finish line between UM and OSU. Notre Dame could possibly sneak into the race if they offer, but as it stands right now, they're on the outside looking in. Massey obviously likes ND because he's still considering them despite not having an offer. IrishEyes will keep you updated if things change.
