Braden Lenzy ready to recruit for Notre Dame

Saturday’s Blue-Gold Game will be a significant recruiting opportunity for both the Irish staff and the current commits. Many notable targets will be on campus for unofficial visits. Braden Lenzy plans to spread the word that Notre Dame is the place to be.

Plenty of Irish commits will be in South Bend this weekend, including four-star wide receiver Braden Lenzy.

The big-play receiver chose the Irish on February 22 over several strong programs, including USC, Cal, Oregon, Stanford and Michigan State. Lenzy fell in love with Notre Dame during his first look at Junior Day, which led to his verbal commitment shortly after.

He knows how special a first-time visit to Notre Dame can be and hopes some of this weekend’s uncommitted recruits will leave campus leaning toward the Irish.

“It’s huge. Anytime at Notre Dame, in this class, you can expect anything,” Lenzy said. “I mean, one visit with me and it changed everything. I think it’s huge and people like Chase (Cota), I’m going to be hip-to-hip with Chase everywhere. I’ll be talking to Dallas Gant, he’s a huge target for us. Also, Kevin Austin. We’ve gotta secure the class, get a great group of dudes with the same ideals that we have and fight for what we all believe in.”

Aside from making Irish targets feel welcome, wanted and excited during their visits, Lenzy will be keeping his eye on certain aspects of the spring game on Saturday.

“Just watch the receivers and how the quarterback does in the new offense that coach (Chip) Long has put in,” Lenzy said. “The intensity, because football is all about being intense, and them playing together. I’m curious to see the changes they’ve made from the fall to the spring.”

Another top recruit from Oregon will be in South Bend this weekend in Cota, who was offered by Notre Dame on March 31. The two top receiver recruits are very familiar with each other and have a positive relationship.

“He’s a great guy, great family, comes from a great background,” Lenzy said. “With someone like his dad and Brady Breeze, who is right now starting for the Ducks at safety, it’s just so easy to have that cocky attitude and think that you’re better than everyone, you would never even know that he has a family like that.

“You would just think that he’s a tall, lanky surfer guy, but he loves playing football. He’s just a really great guy and if we could add him to this class, it would be huge. He isn’t even tapping into his full talent, he’s just a freakish athlete. Any school that gets him will be very lucky and I hope Notre Dame gets him.”

Lenzy wants to make all the athletes on visits feel welcome this weekend. Of course, certain recruits will receive more attention than others. The added recruiting efforts from the current commitments could very well help Notre Dame fill out its class with top talent.
