The Irish need linebackers in this recruiting class and Brian Toal fits the mold. The 6-1, 220-pound Toal has over 30 offers from many of the top programs in the country including Notre Dame.
Toal plays for Don Boscoe Prep in Ramsey, NJ--traditionally a powerhouse school in New Jersey. "We haven't played a game yet, we start on Friday. I'll be playing both running back and linebacker."
Most schools have been recruiting him as a linebacker. "I've talked to Notre Dame, Miami, Tennessee, Boston College, Penn State, Virginia Tech and Maryland." Toal says these are also his top schools in no order.
One coach really impressed him. "I talked to Coach Willingham and he really got me excited about Notre Dame. I liked him a lot. We talked about their game, the fans there, the pep rally. He got me really excited about Notre Dame. It seems like a place I'd really like to be at."
Another school Toal appears to really like is Miami. "Yeah, Miami is pretty high. I know I will definitely visit Notre Dame and Miami. After that, I'm not sure who I will visit."
Toal says he is going to set up some visits soon. "I hope I can take a few during the season and then visit three in December. My schedule has changed so I should have some open dates to take some during the season. I probably won't make my decision until late January."
Toal says he knows what he will be looking for on his visits. "A chance to play early. I want to find a place I feel comfortable and can stay there 4-5 years. The coaches and the players will also be important and then we'll get more detailed after that."
Comments. It appears Toal was very impressed with Willingham. I think the Irish like this player quite a bit. He's pretty open but I do think Miami is the team that will challenge all teams. I wouldn't guess they lead but it's obvious they are high on his list. We'll keep and eye on him.
