Lyons Likes the Irish

Devon Lyons, the four star Safety from Western PA. plays for powerhouse Woodland Hills HS in Pittsburgh. Woodland Hills lost for the first time in 39 games last weekend. Lyons', thought upset about the loss, still has his spirits high. He took time out of his schedule to speak with IrishEyes.

"It was a tough lost last weekend" said Devon Lyons. "We really should've won the game, but I guess we just have to concentrate on the rest of our season now. We have to try to put it behind us" he continued. Lyons has been playing both ways for Woodland Hills and has put up some impressive numbers so far. Through two games, Lyons has 5 catches for 210 yards and 3 touchdowns. On defense, Lyons has 13 tackles. "I like to play on offense" said Lyons "but everyone is recruiting me to play safety."

Lyons has been hearing from dozens of schools, but he has narrowed down the list to five lucky schools. "I'm focusing on Michigan State, Notre Dame, Penn State, Ohio State, and Pittsburgh. I don't really have a favorite right now and I'll probably visit all five of these schools." Don't expect Lyons to make a decision any time soon. "I'll decide after my season is over. I'm trying to concentrate on my season now. I will take a few trips during my season though.

Will Notre Dame get a visit anytime soon? "I'm thinking about visiting Notre Dame for the Michigan State game (September 20th). It's not final, but I was talking to Coach Willingham about it." Lyons has already been to Notre Dame twice already. He attended junior day in South Bend, and also camped at Notre Dame this past summer.

Lyons was very impressed with his conversation with Coach Willingham. "[Coach Tyrone Willingham] called me yesterday. We talked for a while. He's the man. He was very articulate and answered all of my questions. I really enjoyed our conversation."

Much more will be known after Lyons makes his official visit which could take place on Septemeber 20th. IrishEyes will keep you updated.

Comments: Notre Dame has a good chance to land Lyons. He's very impressed with coach Willingham. It's always a good sign when a player visits Notre Dame multiple times. Don't count out Michigan State. Penn State has also been coming on as of lately. Again, we should know a lot more after he makes a few visits.
