Okam Playing the Waiting Game

Franklin Okam is playing the waiting game at this point. The 6-5, 312-pound defensive tackle prospect is a hot commodity with over 30 offers at this point. The Dallas, TX prospect says he's focusing on his season and recruiting will have to wait.

Franklin Okam has already kicked off his season. "It's going pretty good," said Okam. "We're 2-1 so far. I don't know my correct stats but I would say I have around 25 tackles, one sack and five or six tackles for loss so far."

Okam has over 30 offers so far including one from Notre Dame. Teams like Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M, Stanford, Colorado and Florida have also offered. "Miami is the latest school to offer. I have over 30 offers now. I haven't set up any official visits yet. I'm just focusing on my season right now. I want to focus on that so I'll deal with recruiting after my season."

The defensive tackle prospect says he will likely take all of his official visits after his season. "I'll probably start setting them up in the middle or the end of my season. I won't have time to take any during the season so I'll take them all after my season."

Notre Dame has been keeping in contact with Okam. "I speak to Coach Mattison and Coach Willingham quite a bit. We talk a lot about their academics. They tell me their defense needs me. We talk a lot about what Notre Dame can do for me. I like everything about Notre Dame. I couldn't find a negative. The one thing I didn't like was the Michigan game. That was the only thing I didn't like about Notre Dame. I'm pretty sure I'll visit there."

Okam says he really doesn't know where else he might visit. "I haven't even begun to look at that. I'm focusing on my season and I'll start to narrow it down later. I should have an idea later in my season."

Comments: Okam remains very interested in Notre Dame. Hopefully they will get a visit scheduled soon. Hopefully the Irish won't have another game like the Michigan game.
