Council has Irish on Top

Rod Council, the 5-11, 181lb CB from Charlotte NC loved his trip to Notre Dame. Although he didn't commit, ND remains at the top of his list. What will be his next steps in the recruiting process?

Rod Council, and his West Charlotte team started the 2003 campaign strong. His team is 5-1, with the one loss being to powerhouse Independence. "We could've beat them" said Council. "We played them tough for most of the game, but they were just too deep. Independence is the biggest school in [North Carolina] and our team isn't very deep. We only have 29 players on our team. They kind of wore us out."

With his football season going so well, recruiting is starting to pick up as well. Council has already made an official visit to ND, and loved his trip. "It was tight. I really liked it a lot. I hung out with a lot of the players and they were real cool. Ambrose [Wooden] was my host, and he was a real cool guy. I had a good time."

The highlight of the visit was meeting with Coach Willingham. "I sat down to talk with Coach Willingham for a couple of hours. It was real hard not to commit to him. I mean really hard. I liked all the stuff he was saying, and I can really see myself at Notre Dame. They need playmakers, and I can see myself helping the team. Even though I didn't commit, they are my number one team."

Council's coach and grandmother has encouraged him to take a few visits, and leave all his options open. That's what he has decided to do. "I'm visiting Virginia on October 18th, Michigan [October] 24th, and Virginia Tech November 1st. I'll probably decide right after I make my visits. No need to drag it out."

Comments: Looks like the Irish are in good position with Council. Right now ND is number one, and hopefully will remain that way through the rest of his visits. He really seems to like Coach Willingham, and sees himself fitting in well at Notre Dame. More will be known on Council after he takes his other visits.
