Council Enjoys Visit, Sets Others

Do-it-all man Rod Council has been about everything to his West Charlotte high school team this year. The Charlotte, NC native has played a number of positions for his team this year but everyone wants Council as a cornerback. Council recently visited Notre Dame and has set up some other visits as well. Where does the Irish stand with Council?

Rod Council has done a little bit of everything for his team this year. "I'm playing cornerback, wide receiver, running back and the last few weeks I've been punting. Our regular kicker got hurt so they've had me punting."

Council is also a special teams phenom but he hasn't had a lot of opportunities there. "They won't kick to me on kickoffs so I don't really have any stats there. I've taken two punts back but they won't kick to me on kickoffs."

The 6-0, 185-pound corner recently visited Notre Dame and came away very impressed. "I liked it a lot. I loved the game atmosphere and talking to the coaches. I loved hanging out with the players. I felt real comfortable with the players there and felt like I fit in there. They're number one right now."

Council says he scheduled some visits to compare Notre Dame with some other schools. "I'm visiting UVA (Virginia) on October 18th. I have Michigan on October 25th and Virginia Tech on November 1st. I'd like to get this over with soon."

Irish Eyes recently read an update where Council's coach said Michigan and Virginia were his leaders so we asked Rod about that. "He might've thought it was but I told him Notre Dame was my leader right now. Michigan and Virginia are kind of close to Notre Dame."

Comments. Irish fans have a ways to go before we know where Council will end up. Hopefully the coaching staff stays on top of Rod and they are in the race until the end. He does seems to really like Willingham and the players at Notre Dame. We'll keep and eye on Rod this month.
