Heygood Has a New Leader

Anthony Heygood, the star running back for Philadelphia Catholic school Cardinal O'Hara has been on a rampage lately. He's ripping the Catholic league apart, and recruiting is starting to heat up for him. IrishEyes spoke with Heygood a few weeks back. Since then, he has a new leader for his services.

"Purdue leads right now" said Anthony Heygood. "They are really recruiting me hard, and I think I can fit into their offense. They have been running the ball a lot more now." Heygood previously named Wisconsin as his leader. "I still like Wisconsin a lot. They are still right there."

Heygood has been eating up the Philadelphia Catholic league, and he's coming off one of his better games. "Last game we beat Archbishop Ryan 62-6" said Heygood. "I had ten carries for 156 yards. We were really on our game last week. Everything just seemed to be clicking for us."

So far on the season, Heygood has rushed 77 times for 701 yards and 11 TDs. He will have a big test this weekend as his O'hara team hosts Philadelphia powerhouse St. Joseph Prep. SJP is undefeated, and is currently ranked 8th nationally by USA Today. Do not expect Heygood to be intimidated though. "If we play our game, and do the little things, we can beat St. Joes Prep."

Comments: Heygood still hasn't heard from Notre Dame lately, and I think he's getting frustrated. Notre Dame was the early front runner, but for obvious reasons has fallen from the top. Heygood still likes the Irish, and if ND offers, I expect ND to be one of his leaders. This situation reminds us of Travis Thomas' recruiting last season. The good news is, Heygood has not set up any official visits, and doesn't plan to until after his season which leaves ND plenty of time to get in the race if they so choose.
