Hoskins Having a Good Season

Choosing Notre Dame was the obvious choice for Creston HS tailback Justin Hoskins. He was Notre Dame's first verbal commitment of the 2003-2004 recruiting campaign, and he's solid as a rock with his choice. IrishEyes caught up with Hoskins to get updated on his senior season.

"Notre Dame was an easy decision for me" said Justin Hoskins, the native of Grand Rapids MI. "With the great football tradition they have there, I couldn't pass it up. But the real catch for me was the academics. I wanted to choose a school that offered me a great education, as well as the chance to play big time football. Notre Dame was the obvious choice."

Through 7 games, Hoskins' Creston HS team is 5-2, and will be contending for a state playoff berth this weekend. "We play West Catholic this week. If we beat them, we'll automatically get into the state playoffs. We have to win this game this week." Hoskins team lost last weekend to Catholic Central (6-1) 57-34. Hoskins rushed for 174 yards, and 3 touchdowns in the loss.

Individually, Hoskins is tearing apart opposing teams. While he didn't know his exact statistics, he gave IrishEyes a ballpark figure. "I'm not sure how many yards I have, but I know I went over 1000 in last weeks game. I think I have 15 touchdowns too."

Hoskins will be playing a new position this week against West Catholic. "My coaches are moving me to middle linebacker this week. I normally play outside linebacker." Hoskins, known as a fierce tackler, was moved to MLB because of his hitting power. "No one was really hitting last game so my coach moved me to middle. I love to hit peope so I think I can adjust to the position just fine. I doubt my coach has me there the whole game because I'm sure he won't want me getting hurt, or too tired. He's still going to need me running the ball" Hoskins joked.

Hoskins hasn't heard from the Notre Dame staff lately, but says he talks to Coach Denbrock frequently via email. "Coach Denbrock and I email each other back and forth. We talk about the games, and othe things. He's a great guy."

Hoskins committment to Notre Dame is solid. "I am very happy with my commiment. I love Notre Dame, and that's where I'll be next year. They're struggling, but we're going to get it together."

Comments: Hoskins was honestly one of the nicest kids I've talked to. A Notre Dame kid for sure. He is a very bright kid, and an extremely gifted athlete. At 6'0, 195lbs, he has great speed. Expect Notre Dame to play him in the slot, as well as the backfield. No, he won't be playing MLB (for all the DCEs out there). IrishEyes will continue to keep you posted on Hoskins season.
